Manufacturing Planning and Control System

The MPC system provides information to
  • Manage the flow of materials effectively
  • Utilize people and equipment effectively
  • Coordinate internal activities with suppliers
  • Communicate with customer about market requirements
There 3 distinct phases in MPC
  • Front end
    -The activities in this phase result in overall end-item production plan.
  • Engine
    - Convert end-item production plan into detailed material and capacity plan
    - Material and capacity plans are validated
  • Back end
-Deals with the interface of details material requirements and capacity plans with internal execution and contract systems and with external suppliers

Planning functions are as below

  • Sales and Operation Planning
  • Master production scheduling
  • Material requirement Planning
  • Capacity requirement planning

When the planning phase is complete and plans have been accepted as realistic and attainable, then the execution functions are initiated.


Execution functions

  • Input-Output capacity
  • Detailed scheduling
  • Dispatching
  • Anticipated delay reports
  • Supplier scheduling

Feedback is given by the execution system to keep the plan valid at all times.
